The Carl Sandburg College women’s golf team shattered the school record and freshman Jaeden Workman (Morrison, Ill./Morrison) tied for second overall at the Augustana Spring Invitational on Sunday at Highland Springs.

Led by Workman’s 3-over-par 76, the Chargers finished with a 330 for the day and finished third in the 13-team event, beating a host of four-year schools such as Monmouth, Millikin and Wisconsin-Platteville.

Sandburg’s score beat the previous school record of 340 set at the Augustana Highland Classic during the fall season, also at Highland Springs.

Workman’s 76 was behind only the even-par 73 put up by Shelby Keen of Knox. The Chargers finished seven strokes behind runner-up and host Augustana. Wisconsin-Whitewater was first with a 316.

Hayley Guilinger (Thomson, Ill./West Carroll) finished 17th overall with an 82. Emily Franzoni (Canton, Ill./Canton) shot an 85, and Madison Newton (Erie, Ill./Erie) shot 41 on the back nine to come in with an 87 and round out the Chargers’ score. Renee Scheider (Lena, Ill./Lena-Winslow) shot a 100 for Sandburg.

The Chargers will wrap up their season with their first-ever appearance at the NJCAA National Championship from May 13-16 at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla.
